Wimbledon Embraces Video Replay Technology in 2025.

Wimbledon court with video review system

Wimbledon will follow the US and Aussie Opens in utilizing video review systems.

Replay systems will be launched at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.

Players will gain the option to challenge specific decisions from the chair umpire, mirroring the protocol already in operation at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.

This innovation will be operational on Centre Court and Court One throughout the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles contests.

This move follows just a season following the All England Club introduced ELC, which brought an end to the centuries-old tradition of line judges.

Reviewable Decisions

Competitors cannot to dispute the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but they can request the umpire to review other decisions, such as:

  • If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
  • Whether a shot made contact with an rival's racket or person during play.
  • Possible interference end of a rally.

Notably, there is an unlimited number on the number of challenges a player can request.

Practical Application

A recent case occurred in a recent tournament recently, where a top player used the video challenge against his opponent.

Draper admitted it was a tough situation for the umpire, but believed his rival had "used the regulations effectively."

Official Aurelie Tourte watched a replay and determined the player was guilty of interference, awarding the rally to Medvedev.

Broader Adoption

This technology aren't new for Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the American major for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have the system implemented at all of its tournaments.

Other Changes

Another innovation at The Championships this year will be the introduction of visual indicators on displays to support the audio calls from the ELC system.

This solves instances where fans have occasionally been unsure if a shot was out or in.

In other news, with exactly a century of days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have also revealed an increase in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
